This past Friday, the exchange tablewas full of iris and tomato plants and seed
potatoes from local GRUB, geraniums,
lettuce and flower seeds, empty plastic pots,
community resources on
nutrition, gardening, social services, and
some wonderful seed catalogs.
Swapping and exchanging happened successfully, and
everyone who participated was happy with what
they received as well as with the opportunity to add to the
exchange.
If you have any produce, plants, and seeds from your
garden, resources and information on permaculture,
organic gardening, and sustainability, or any recipes for
healthy food preparation that you would like
to share and exchange at our table, please
bring them on by to the Friday Market from 2-6
in the Chapman Elementary School parking lot.
The Community Garden Exchange Project will also be
serving as a way to connect residential, school, and community
center gardens and programs to each other as well as to residents
in the community, and along with exchange items will host an eco-friendly
kids art project each week, and a series of free workshops on gardening, permaculture,
and sustainability by some Chico area farmers and community members.
We would love to hear from you if you have
any suggestions or interests for certain
workshop topics, or any other suggestions for our exhcange project.
So far, we received requests for a fall gardening and a
graywater workshop, which we are intending to host
in the summer or fall.
We are also seeking one or two interns/volunteers to
help out each week with any of our projects, and
to help out at the exchange table and kids art table.
Please contact Alaya if you are interested or have any other
questions.
We appreciate all of the support this project has received so
far from the community, and hope that it will grow to support
and connect a healthy food systems network.
